Dear Chesapeake Association Pastor, Musician, or Friend,

You may have received an e-mail from Pastor Cathy Oatman asking for your help as United
Evangelical Church celebrates 135 years. On Sunday, November 2nd at 6:30 p.m. we are
planning a concert highlighting the history of church music. We are calling the service “From
Gregorian Chant to Twila Paris, a celebration of the history of church music.”

As part of the service, we are endeavoring to put together a choir composed of members and
friends of Chesapeake Association churches. Mr. Dave McGarvey, music director from
Columbia UCC has agreed to be our director. The choir will present five selections as part of the
service. A list of the choral music to be presented is included in this mailing. United
Evangelical will purchase all of the music for use at the service and rehearsal. A free will
offering for Earl’s Place will be taken during the concert.

I am asking your help in recruiting some singers that would participate in our choir. Please ask
members of your choir, any soloists, or any other person you feel may participate for a tentative
commitment for the November 2nd date. You, as the pastor, musician, or friend are also invited
to sing. If you would simply supply me the names, addresses and phone numbers of any persons
that give you a tentative commitment, I will get in touch with them with any additional
information. Please return the enclosed sheet to me with their information.

In addition, we are also seeking names of instrumentalists that would volunteer to be part of an
ensemble for a prelude, postlude and hymn accompaniment. We are also seeking volunteers who
may want to split the piano and organ accompaniment duties for the service.

I have also enclosed a bulletin insert that you may wish to use to help us recruit singers. We are
also planning to have a rehearsal on Sunday, October 19th from 1:30 – 3:00 p.m. Lunch will be
provided by members of the church from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. on that day.

Thank you for any help you can provide as we celebrate our 135th anniversary. Hopefully we
will be able to assemble a group of singers that will be able to participate in other events
throughout the Chesapeake Association.

Sincerely yours,
Rob Gundlach
